Government to provide assistance to construct 3 crore new Rural and Urban Houses under PMAY
- Overview:
- The government aims to construct 3 crore houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY).
- Distribution: 2 crore houses in rural areas (PMAY-Rural) and 1 crore in urban areas (PMAY-Urban).
- PMAY-Rural:
- 2 crore houses will be in addition to the 2.95 crore houses already sanctioned.
- Launched in 2016 by the Ministry of Rural Development.
- Type: Centrally Sponsored Scheme.
- Beneficiaries identified through the Socio-Economic and Caste Census (SECC) 2011.
- Current Status: 2.62 crore houses completed as of 11th June 2024.
- PMAY-Urban:
- Launched in 2015 by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs.
- Type: Both Centrally Sponsored and Central Sector Scheme.
- Beneficiaries include:
- Economically Weaker Section (EWS) with an income of up to 3 lakh.
- Low Income Group (LIG) with 3-6 lakh income.
- Middle Income Group (MIG) with 6-12 lakh income.
- EWS is eligible for assistance in all four verticals, while LIG/MIG is eligible under the Credit Linked Subsidy Scheme (CLSS).
- Current Status: 83.51 lakh houses completed as of 3rd June 2024.
