Ministry of Health & Family Welfare (MoHFW) recently launched extended Pradhan Mantri Surakshit Matritva Abhiyan.

  • Objective:
    • Provide assured, comprehensive, and quality antenatal care, free of cost, to all pregnant women in their 2nd or 3rd trimesters on the 9th of every month.
    • Focus on identifying high-risk pregnancies, ensuring birth planning, and managing complications.
  • Implementing Agency: Government health facilities, with private practitioners volunteering.
  • Beneficiaries: All pregnant women in their 2nd or 3rd trimesters.
  • Launch Date: July 2016
  • Tenure: Ongoing
  • Key Provisions:
    • Comprehensive Care: Minimum package of antenatal services at designated government health facilities.
    • Private Sector Engagement: Encourages private practitioners to volunteer.
    • Diagnostic Services: Includes tests for anaemia, gestational diabetes, and hypertension.
    • Focus Areas: Special emphasis on adolescent and early pregnancies; provision of nutritional supplements.
    • High-Risk Pregnancy: Expanded list from 10 to 25 categories.

    • ‘I Pledge For 9’ Achievers Awards: Recognizes private sector doctors who contribute to the PMSMA scheme.
